Description

KINGSTON — A 34-year-old woman was recovering Friday after being shot in the leg near the Kingston Library in Midtown, according to city police.

Police said seven shots were fired about 11 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Furnace and Franklin streets, behind the library, and that the woman, described as an “unintended victim” who was getting out of her car at the time, was struck once in her right leg, just below the knee.

The woman, whose name was not provided, was in satisfactory condition on Friday at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie with a non-life-threatening wound and was awaiting release, police said.

Police said that as medics tended to the wounded woman after the shooting, officers set up a perimeter and interviewed neighborhood residents. Police said they were told two black males — one wearing black clothes, the other in gray sweatpants and a white T-shirt — were seen running from the area.

No arrests were reported as of late Friday morning.

Shell casings and other evidence were recovered at the scene, police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Kingston Police Department’s Detective Division at (845) 331-8404.
