My issue is people going thru the red light to proceed on Albany Ave.. They go in front of me or in back of me right thru the red light.. I have the WALK sign flashing at me.. I have pointed at the red light and was cursed at more than once.. I talked to the officers at the accident today and they said most people think it is a standing GREEN. Well it is not and I am afraid I am going to be killed by these idiots..

take their license # and give it to the police and make a formal complaint.

The problem is that entire stretch, people are racing to get to the light zipping in and out of lanes.

People are all of us good intentioned and will always do the right thing when they are carefully instructed. But the traffic light and cross walk are poorly marked.
The traffic light is in an unusual place and for most drivers rarely if ever encountered. In such situation, traffic signals have a bright strobe instead in them to alert the driver. The path for the pedestrians is narrowly marked, adequate for the pedestrian but not at all for the driver, and crosshatched crossings are much more visible to the driver. As to Maiden Lane, whatever the law may say, that red light does not govern pedestrians or traffic turning: it's position is not a signal for the intersection, but only for that single pedestrian crossing. One may argue otherwise but at best it is ambiguous and there is absolutely no light governing Maiden Lane on which all traffic is fast and the slanting entrance to Albany Avenue Extention does nothing to calm that speeding traffic.
The City of Kingston would absolutely be liable for any accidents at that intersection as it has been publicly notified of the hazard and would be found negligent in failing to correct the problem.

I have taken pics of the drivers and I have called the police and they tell me that unless they see the infraction . They said that they will patrol more.. I have been down there all hours of the day and I have not seen one police officer stop a vehicle.. I have watched drivers go through the stop light and the police were the other way.. I hope i am not run over or killed at this light.. I need to get to the dialysis center and cross this street.. Going down to the other light is just as bad with the traffic trying to go through the sign saying 9-12 and 1-4.. When the bicyclist was hit today I hope it wakes up someones eyes..

the best way to fix this problem would be to make maiden lane one way going from broadway to clinton ave
that way any one who needs to turn onto broadway would make the turn at clinton

The problem is not so much Maiden lane as the cars going through the light when they are traveling Albany ave and go right through the light at the Dialysis center.. I have almost been hit 2 times with my daughter. As they go through the light I am walking in the cross walk.. They go in front of me or behind me then yell at me for crossing.. MAYBE PROTESTING TO THE CITY COUNCIL FOR A SOLUTION IS OUR BEST BET. AND DEMANDING MORE POLICE PATROL UNTIL PEOPLE START TO SLOW DOWN. THEY DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY IF THERE ARE PEDESTRIANS IN ANY WALKWAY.....

I went walking today and again cars blew through the light as we were crossing in the crosswalk.. The light was red and again I had the right of way.. Not one police officer in site..

Today at 10 am the cross walk signals are not working.. It was almost impossible to cross with out the red light .. I was in the cross walk and no one stopped.. The law states if pedestrians are in the cross walk it is the law to stop.. No butts about it.. I am going to call Kingston to report the walk sign problem..

It is frustrating to see how many cars can go through the light as they continue to travel on Ulster Ave. I cross there every morning to go to Hannaford to catch the bus for college. Many cars try to go through the light and the cross walk where I am walking to get through the light. I am almost hit once a week. I see people looking around for the police or going through it slowly. When is something going to be done ? i call the police to be told that unless they see the infraction, they can do nothing. Is it going to take a severe accident or some one being killed before anything happens? I hope not since I walk there 2 times a day or more..

These are very useful posts. The police et al are informed: they know where the violations are. If they choose, it is a very simple matter to harvest a whole band of miscreants, fine them, and re-instill a respect for the law.
Like the drug busts that followed the many postings here, one may expect that law enforcement will see at least the potential revenue even if they turn a blind eye to the danger.

I do not see anything changing, but I can not comment anymore.
