Glad to hear someone is complaining about it. My heart goes in my mouth everytime I have to go that way. Needs to be looked at. Alot of people have no fear when they approach. You have to look out the yourself as well as the other person. Please look into this and help with the situation. Thank you,
Agree....I have to drive thru this intersection often...and walk to the park, often...it's very, very dangerous! Should have been addressed years ago. Nobody respects the "your turn next", much less pedestrians have the right of way!
This intersection is still a very big problem. Vehicles are ignoring the stop sign in front of The New England Presbyterian Congregational Church and driving straight through without stopping or checking for traffic coming off Park Place. A lot of them don't even come to a full stop, they just pull up to the stop sign then go, Many cars are cutting off the CDTA Bus the comes down Park Place and turns onto Circular St. and heads toward Empire State College. There are many pedestrians walking through that area and most vehicles have no regard for pedestrian and vehicular safety. If you put a un under cover cop car in the parking lot of the chirch for a day you would not believe how many tickets they woud write, maybe enough to help balance the City budget.
The solution is simple people. Move the stop sign on Whitney from its present location to the corner of Circular and Park Pl. That equalizes the distance from the intersection to stopping cars in all three directions.
Issue: http://www.seeclickfix.com/issues/28265-weird-4-way-stop-people-don-t-follow-rules ties in with this issue. I wish The Saratogian and The City would pay better attention to issues on See Click Fix that are a priority to be addressed by the number of votes. This issue post as well as it's sibling post total at least 80 votes if not more and are the top voted posts on See Click Fix and are being ignored by our City and our local newspaper.
This area is extremely dangerous, especially now that the summer season is in full swing. Out of towners ( & locals alike) do not adhere to any sort of stop & go procedure. To quote another comment on this site "Its like playing chicken"...you never know whats going to happen @ that intersection. There needs to be a 4 way stop, or traffic light. This has gone on for years, & its just getting worse. I have witnessed accidents, & near accidents w/pedestrians as well as cars.
I guess the city think that the Gilbert Rd. & Rte. 29E intersection is more important than this one which I find to be very sad as there area few hundred persons voting in favor to remedy this issue over 4 or 4 threads on this website.
Short of installing a traffic signal, which I'm loath to suggest, the solution is for everyone to follow the well established the traffic rules. I.e., wait for the cars already first in line at their respective stop signs. If you arrive simultaneously, give way to the car on the right. No freight-training the car in front of you, as you must wait your turn once you're first at your stop sign. No rolling "stops". Coming to a full stop will help everyone know who is next to go. I recommend to police monitor and educate the law-breakers.
put camers on the corners and send tickets in the mail for the rolling stop cars. Just yesterday 3 cars pulled out one right after the other. The second 2 cars never stopped. No wonder people have road rage
Regarding Public Safety Commisioner Mathiesen latest plan for this interesection:
Make Park Place, between Circular and Regent, one way headed away from Congress Park. This will improve traffic flow and avoid the temptation of illegal left hand turns that will create a dangerous situation.
