Description
At the SW corner of the intersection of 15th and Madison streets (approx address: 1433 Madison St) there are remnants of a mattress fire that happened here a few months ago. The sidewalk is charred with black soot and the fire hydrant and light post are also charred and paint has peeled off and they are now black. Please spray wash the sidewalk to remove the ash and repaint the light pole and fire hydrant here. It is a eyesore. See attached picture.

Dear Sir or Madam:
Thank you for contacting the Public Works Agency regarding this matter. The maintenance and repair of sidewalks is the responsibility of the property owner per Section 5610 of the California State Street and Highways code and Section 12.04 of the Oakland Municipal Code. These codes require property owners to repair and maintain their sidewalks, except where sidewalk damage is caused by an official City of Oakland tree, in which case the City's current policy is to take on those repairs. The damage to the street light pole, the fire hydrant and the graffiti will be reported to the respective maintenance groups.
Thank you.
