Whoever created this “complaint” thank you. When my wife and I walk down that way we are constantly helping people get around obstacles in the way. I get the tables and chairs outside. But these signs and banners are absolutely blocking the sidewalk and the business owners need to be warned and then fined if they continue.

I concur also. 472 Madison also puts a sandwich sign out that blocks the center of the sidewalk. The City needs to send out a notice to all businesses that they cannot block the sidewalks with signs, chairs, tables, banners or anything else. This is against the law. The downtube also often blocks the sidewalk by doing work on bicycles out front rather than in the shop where that work belongs. It's a real obstacle course.

Perhaps in this struggling economy someone could ask the owners to be more thoughtful of the neighborhood and taking the type business it is I can't see why they wouldn't comply they may not be aware of their error in judgement.

In addition right outside the line harp Pub is a concrete bench which apparently is for the roaming panhandler that sits outside his bar and panhandle from people why do you cough and gags because you shouldn't continue smoking no less not a judgment but an observation perhaps the city could remove that bench as well and not be so inviting for him to hang out as this is not a permitted item on the city street without a permit the owner of Rinehart sometimes takes things in his own hands and thinks he can do what he wants

But yes as a nurse I would like to bring up the health concerns to the citizens in the area. He either has to be asked to not sit in one area or take the bench away. That is not fair to people trying to enjoy the nice weather. Mask or not it’s still not fun to have to walk by that.

AlbNYresident. This is not being a bully at all. People with wheelchairs, strollers, dogs, etc... can not get through on the sidewalks with this much advertising in the way. We are not saying to close the business down. Heck we aren’t even saying take the ads down. Just move them in closer to the building. I don’t think that is too much to ask. And I sure as heck don’t think it’s bullying. I’ve had to help people get through there because of this issue. And if we are to stay 3-6 feet apart depending on who you listen to then this needs to be moved in. That’s all. And if the business is truly struggling to keep the doors open and lights on then this chalkboard sign isn’t helping too much anyway. Pull it in. Make it safer for the Albany residents you say you care so much about.

Well said, Fed up. A sign blocking access to public sidewalks is not going to be the factor that keeps a business open. Most people don't even look at them except to be annoyed that they are in the way. It's rude to block the walkways, in general, but spend a day in a wheelchair trying to navigate Madison and Lark and see what that is like. So many vehicles also block cross walks because they don't want to walk an extra block. When they do that, people in wheel chairs can't cross the street to get home, get to jobs, catch a bus, etc. When sidewalks and cross walks aren't cleared of snow, mobility impaired people are trapped.Talk about feeling bullied! Put yourself in other's shoes and be aware.

The sign has been relocated closer to the building. The SeeClickFix was then sent to DGS to handle the damaged sidewalk.

Before the bench was there, he sat in the flower beds and destroyed them. Short of very aggressive laws that violate civil liberties, he is here to stay. Anyone concerned about COVID has had ample opportunity to get vaccinated. Let’s move on.
