The heavy construction work at Sylvia Mendez is occurring immediately adjacent to the location where children are picked up after school. Many parents refuse to find legal parking spaces, double park, park in driveways or circle, not paying attention to bicyclists on the Russell bicycle boulevard. Please speak to the BUSD about relocating the pick up location.

This issue is the contractor is working with heavy equipment (backhoes, bobcats, and there are lots of trucks) in a large area immediately adjacent to the Russell Street pickup door (directly west of the auditorium). All construction will be centered on Russell Street until the end of the summer at least.

An easy fix would be to move the pickup location to Ellsworth until the beginning of the school year at least (to account for summer programs and alleviate congestion during installation of underground plumbing for portables and installation of the portables themselves on Russell).
