Acknowledged By (spt). Your request for plowing/salting has been acknowledged by Philly 311. The City of Philadelphia has declared a snow emergency effective Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Streets Dept. is working to clear primary and secondary roadways at this time. Philly 311 will begin taking Service Requests for salting and plowing when this event is officially declared over. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
SUGGESTION:
Since the Walnut Bridge roadway is a very wide, one-direction (outbound from downtown, i.e. evening rush hour = heaviest vehicle traffic) will the Streets Dept PLEASE move snow off both sidewalks and let the snow narrow the roadway width by one single 12-ft wide lane.
NB: city should not plow this sidewalk snow into a curbside lane at 1) corners, 2) other logical ped crossings, 3) bus stops.
Another suggestion: plow sidewalk+roadway snow into one of the CENTER-MOST of the (4) traffic lanes. This will allow 1) curbside metered parking, 2) will not block in-out of parking garages, 3) will facilitate bus stopping, 4) both left & right turns will be easier since they won't have to navigate around curbside plowed snow piles.
PLEASE CONSIDER THIS!!! TEST IT on the next big snow, please.
