This is an extremely dangerous place to try and proceed up the steep grade to continue up Glenside Road toward Beacon Hill. It should be fixed before some dies there.
Someone is going to get killed at this intersection. I live in one of the neighborhoods in the area and especially when the weather is bad attempting to get out into traffic is terrifying. The combination of the curve coming off of Glenside and people speeding up and down Marshalton-Thonrdale is a hazardous combination.
I personally think that excavating and raising the Marshalton-Thorndale and flattening either side of Glenside would make a huge difference. I personally have been the victim of an accident where a kid ran straight through the existing stop sign. I think the changing the terrain would make a big difference.
I live on Glenside rd right near the intersection with marshalton thorndale rd. Hearing the actual car crashes is bad enough, and I go out of my way sometimes just to avoid that intersection on my way home....we NEED a traffic light!
and yet another terrible crash tonight at 9pm, my wife was scared thinking it was me who was hit, luckily I was still at work, try crossing this intersection at rush hour, between 4 and 6pm is ridiculous.
It is very interesting that I have stumbled upon this site. I was personally in an accident at this intersection on 4/22/13 as i was headed to my daughters softball game. The other driver was trying to cross MT going uphill on glenside and T-boned my jeep wrangler causing it to go up the embankment and rolled over. Jeep was a total loss. Fortunately it was just me in the Jeep. After doing some research, i found that there was an accident at this site on 4/1/2013 andAwith the post above, also on 4/11/13. This is ridiculous. i know that people tend to speed on MT, but I certainly know that I was driving the posted 40MPH as those little signs that people put out near the road (Please Slow Down) really make one think. I think that I may need to approach the township with this additional data.
I also live very close to this intersection. I see at least 5 serious accidents there every single year. Rather than just complain about it here, which is unlikely to solve this issue, allow me to make a suggestion, or rather, share the one made in an Inquirer article written about this dangerous intersection in 1987 (27 YEARS AGO). Since that time, nothing has happened, except for an estimated 100+ accidents, I'd guess. (Google search: Residents Say Intersection Is Unsafe Glenside)
From the Inquirer 2/15/87: "Chairman Jonathan Wood told the residents that both roads are state roads and do not fall under the jurisdiction of the township. He told her that she and the other concerned residents should send letters to PENNDOT and state Rep. JOSEPH PITTS."
The solution: Congressman Pitts is actually still, our congressman today. Send him a a letter and copy of this article. One letter isn't enough. Whether it's about this intersection, or any other issue, it's up to you, and nobody else. Good luck.
