Description
Sonoma Blvd from Curtola Pkwy south to Maritime Academy Dr. is a hazard for bicyclists. All along this stretch of road is a lot of loose blacktop gravel along the curb and extending, in some places, about 18" into the pavement. In some spots it's also quite thick, an accident waiting to happen for the biker whose tire suddenly skids when it hits the gravel, as happened to me recently. It's a "shovel ready job" or perhaps one for the street sweeper. It was this way the last time I rode this way, maybe a year ago, and it's worse now.

Sonoma Blvd is a terrible place to bike even on a good day. For instance people drive like crazy and routinely exceed the speed limit -- This is a VPD issue and Caltrans is not authorized to give traffic tickets. I prefer to bike on fifth St., which parallels Sonoma just a few blocks away, but even then, there are two dangerous crossings at Lemon and Magazine, where better traffic control is needed.
I am reopening the issue because there are a number of things that the City of Vallejo should do to mitigate the situation. This is not solely a Caltrans issue. Furthermore, the residents of Vallejo expect their City to represent their interest with Caltrans.
Finally, whoever you are city official, please give us your name so that we can tell the City Council who you are when we go discuss the matter with them. Don't be a coward who hides under the "verified Official" moniker.
