Description
Chew Park, a part of the Philadelphia Department of Recreation and supported by taxpayers, took down any signs to leash and clean up after your dog and posted a banner that reads "no dogs allowed". There are no current laws by the City of Philadelphia or the Dept. of Recreation banning dogs from using the Recreation areas as long at the leash 5 ft. or shorter and all waste is cleaned up. Is this legal?

yes, i noticed this earlier this summer too! It's awful. This is the only park where my dogs and I can get good exercise, and we always clean up. I even pick up some of the trash when i see it.
I am also questioning how they can do this, and am going to get in touch with the parks contact person for this park:

It sure doesn't sound right. Funny, it's "Chew" park! Let's voice!

really!? wow. I'm really curious about this now. There's no real dog park in the newbold or point breeze area, and this is a city-run park after all. I always clean up after my dogs, and without a car this is the closest decent park. It's not even busy most of the time!
I'm going to call myself on monday and see what the deal is. >B[

Saw that this had been voted on so I thought I'd post what we all found out -- dogs aren't allowed on playgrounds, and Chew is a playground.
You can see more info here: www.philly.com/philly/columnists/city_howl/20111109_City_Howl_Help_Desk___PLAY_GROUND_ZERO__WHERE_CAN_DOGS_RUN_.html
And please feel free to contact me if you have more questions.
